Ahmet Soylu is a computer scientist, professor, and academic leader specialising in data management, knowledge representation, semantic web technologies, and AI-driven digital transformation. He is Dean of the School of Doctoral Studies at Kristiania University of Applied Sciences in Oslo, Associate Professor at the University of Oslo (UiO), and Visiting Professor at Seoul National University (SNU).
He earned his PhD in Computer Science from KU Leuven in 2012. He has previously served as full Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and at OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University, where he was Head of the Innovation, Digital Transformation and Sustainability group. He has also been Visiting Researcher at the University of Oxford and Expert in data visualisation, open data, and the Semantic Web at the Publications Office of the European Union in Luxembourg. His background further includes roles as Senior Research Scientist at SINTEF Digital and Senior Engineer at DNV, combining academic leadership with applied research and innovation in industry and research institutes.
Ahmet has led and contributed to major EU, national, and industrial research projects, including the TheyBuyForYou project on open linked data for public procurement and the Optique project on scalable access to big data. His research has been published in leading venues such as ISWC, SIGIR, CIKM, Applied Soft Computing, Expert Systems with Applications, IEEE Computer, and the Semantic Web journal.
He is the Chair of the steering committee for the Declarative AI series — including RuleML+RR, the Reasoning Web Summer School, and DecisionCAMP — and has been involved in numerous other international conferences. He has served multiple times as General Chair for RuleML+RR organised under Declarative AI umbrella. Ahmet serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Web Semantics (JoWS), Transactions on Graph Data and Knowledge (TGDK), and Data Technologies and Applications.
With over 170 scholarly publications and collaborations with more than 230 international co-authors, he also actively contributes to public debate on higher education, technology, and culture through essays, commentary, and invited talks.
